NEW YORK, NY, April 21, 2022 – The Money Management Institute (MMI) is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of its founding in 1997. The idea for MMI came from a small group of executives in the rapidly evolving Separately Managed Account space who met regularly to discuss issues and challenges and saw the benefits that could come from a formal industry association, and MMI was born.
Today, it is the industry-leading association with over 200 member firms and 9,000 members – representing financial services firms providing financial advice and investment advisory solutions to investors.
“This milestone celebrates 25 years of remarkable progress and achievement during a period of rapid and significant transformation in the investment advisory industry,” said Troy Thornton, Managing Director and Head of the Americas Retail Client Business for Goldman Sachs Asset Management, and Chair of MMI’s Board of Governors. MMI’s membership today includes wealth managers, asset managers, and solutions providers, and they range in size from some of the largest global financial institutions to emerging innovators and new entrants. All told, MMI member firms collectively represent 95% of all assets in the advisory solutions sector.”
“We are proud of the collegiality and elevated content we provide to our membership through our communities, conferences and events – all part of a platform designed to help shape the future of investment advice,” said Craig Pfeiffer, President and CEO of MMI. “As we look forward to the next 25 years, we are in a strong position to help and work with up-and-coming industry leaders, providing the resources to develop the skills and foster the energy and momentum that will be needed by wealth and asset managers to adapt to the constantly evolving needs of investors and the financial advisors who serve them.”
Of critical importance going forward are MMI’s suite of educational and leadership development programs that includes Executive IQ™ by Money Management Institute and Leadership Pathway. These resources are designed to help executive-level professionals and rising leaders with five to ten years of experience, advance their careers – and introduce emerging talent to the industry.
Members can harness MMI benefits and services to foster peer-to-peer connections, keep up to date on trends, access comprehensive research and analysis from industry experts, and take part in aligned communities where they can discuss common challenges and share best practices.
MMI is the only industry association uniquely dedicated to advancing the future of investment advice and solutions. It has become the resource center where industry professionals can foster the connections, knowledge, and growth that are essential to enhancing their value proposition – the delivery of investment advice – and shepherding constructive social change.
MMI has had a longstanding commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the financial services industry. In 2008, it established the Gateway Foundation to foster connections that introduce university students of color to internships and full-time jobs in the financial services industry. The program continues to grow, supporting financial literacy in underserved communities, offering more opportunities for MMI member firms to recruit entry-level and mid-career professionals of color, and support their ongoing development.
