We are pleased to present the ninth edition of MMI’s annual research report on the Retail Distribution of Alternative Investments.
Produced in conjunction with FUSE Research, the report analyzes proprietary data provided by MMI member firms on both traditional and liquid alternative investments, making it unique in the industry.
Released at the opening session of the 2020 MMI Alternative Investments Forum on July 8, the report examines the various headwinds faced by the alternative investments industry in 2019 – including continued underperformance versus the broader stock markets, net overall outflows for both the liquid and traditional alternatives categories given the risk-on nature of the markets during the year, and continued fierce competition from the largest managers. Given the unprecedented dislocation in the markets caused by the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of the first quarter of this year, what lies ahead?
The report provides an outlook for alternative investments in 2020 and also examines specific areas of opportunity – such as the positive fund-raising environment for private equity, the growth of unlisted closed-end funds, and technology as a differentiator and means to broaden the reach of alternative investments.
