As investor interest in “sustainable” investment strategies increases, asset managers have started to offer a wide range of products that incorporate sustainability or environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies. In turn, due diligence officers, financial consultants, and investors are being challenged to distinguish among the sustainability-focused managers and products and identify those that align with their interests and goals.
That’s why MMI and The Investment Integration Project (TIIP) are pleased to announce the release of a new report, Sustainable Investment Products and Due Diligence: Insights from Industry Experts. The report shares reflections and insights from a group of industry experts and investment gatekeepers on the issues and challenges of due diligence for sustainable investment products.
Addressing four key areas, the report:
- Provides a typology of sustainable investment products and services that aligns with investors’ motivations for pursuing a sustainable investment approach;
- Discusses the cross-cutting considerations in the application of traditional due diligence procedures to sustainable investment products;
- Examines specialized due diligence considerations that can arise in relation to the various types of sustainable investment products and services; and
- Outlines the challenges of benchmarking, rating, and ranking the sustainability aspects of these products.
Co-authored by Steve Lydenberg, William Burckart and Jessica Ziegler of TIIP, with Mark Sloss, the development of the guide was sponsored by Thornburg Investment Management.
