MMI’s workplace diversity program, Gateway to Leadership, just wrapped up its ninth year of summer internships. Thirteen students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities interned at host firms including Brinker, Clearbridge, DTCC, Fiserv, Hartford, NEPC, Principal, Raymond James, and Voya.
During their busy eight-week internships at their host firms, the students also completed the Envestnet Institute on Campus courses (sponsored by Wheelhouse Analytics) and participated in the 2016 GTL Business Case Competition. For the competition, the interns split into four teams mentored by MMI members Albridge Analytics, Edward Jones, JP Morgan, and Neuberger Berman. Each team was tasked with preparing a written proposal and oral presentation for a hypothetical couple preparing their finances for retirement. Although each of the teams did a terrific job, Team JP Morgan took the top honors.
Another exciting development for GTL this summer was the launch of a new partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). Pioneer Investments hosted an intern from an Hispanic Serving Institution at its Boston office in the pilot year of the GTL-HACU National Internship Program. While at Pioneer, the intern assisted the Sales Team in the intermediary channel while participating in a variety of other educational activities.
